Cheryl R. Babcock, CFE has developed programs for, and worked with, franchise professionals in the U.S. and around the world. She is the founding director of Nova Southeastern University's International Institute for Franchise Education and a former Subway franchisee and field representative. She is a member of the original panel of experts in a monthly feature of Success magazine entitled Can This Business Be Franchised? She has been named one of "20 to Watch in Franchising" in both 2000 and 2004 by Franchise Times, been awarded the Edwin M. Appel prize from the Price-Babson College Fellows Program for bringing entrepreneurial vitality to academe, and the first woman recipient of the Free Enterprise Award from the International Franchise Association in 2003 and a recipient of this award in 2000 for the programming she developed in the Institute for Franchise Management at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Peter J. Kowal began his career in a sales and marketing capacity for Carnival Cruise Lines in Canada. In 1991, he inaugurated his career in franchising by assuming the role of vice president and general manager for Cruise Holidays International, a 209-unit franchise system headquartered in San Diego, California. He eventually assumed the role of president, focusing his strategic thinking talents on all aspects of the franchise business. In 1999, he accepted the position of president for a start-up; .COM, technology-based franchise system, consisting of 266-franchised locations (through acquisition). Upon the sale of the .com franchise system to one of our nation's largest franchisors, he agreed to launch a new division within a $4.4 billion annual gross sales company, and assumed the role of senior vice president and general manager. In 2004, Peter launched, International Franchise Solutions (www.ifsSolutions.net). The company's primary focal point is on assisting start up, and/or emerging franchise companies in developing every aspect of their franchise system, with a keen focus on franchise development.
Melvin B. Seiden has extensive experience in all aspects of financial management. A Florida and New York C.P.A. and an M.B.A., he was an associate with Ernst & Young and a number of public companies before joining Roland International Coportation. While at Rolan, he held the positions of executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mel contributes his diversified consulting and financial skills to Sable Associates. He specializes in planning, analysis and operational auditing for manufacturing companies, resorts and real estate developers.
